AUGMENTED REALITY BASED NAVIGATION MODEL AND IT’S APPLICATION ALGORITHM IN CIVIL AVIATION

This article analyzes the features and possibilities of navigation using Augmented Reality (AR) in civil aviation and the development of a model and machine vision algorithm used in such a system. The first part of the article discusses the principles of traditional navigation systems and their limitations. In contrast to the classical methods of navigation, the features, the mathematical apparatus and the prospects of using area navigation in solving the problems of developing civil aviation are analyzed. The second part of the article provides a detailed analysis of the features of augmented reality in the context of its application in aircraft navigation. The structure of the system developed by the authors with augmented reality for piloting the aircraft is presented. Mathematical methods that form the basis for the functioning of augmented reality, actually inherited from visual odometry, are considered. At the first stage, the detection of the points of interest, coordinate markers, and optical streams that are most characteristic for the desired object in the frames from the camera is provided; at the second, the real world coordinate system is restored from the data obtained at the first stage. As a result of the work done, the authors present the stages necessary for the implementation of augmented reality in aircraft navigation systems.
