PROTECTION METHODS AGAINST THREATS TO SAFETY OF FLIGHTSFROM ATMOSPHERIC PERTURBATIONS

The article deals with the scientifi c and technical problem of ensuring safety of
light aircraft fl ights and their protection against atmospheric perturbations that
are produced in a large-scale atmospheric turbulence or arise in a vortex wake
trail from other aircraft. This problem is especially topical for low altitude fl ight at
approach and landing fl ight stages in the absence of a meteo-radar and the complete
absence of optical visibility. The problem could be solved and safety of fl ights could
be provided with the help of any other on-board software and hardware. The nature
of vortex wake trail from aircraft and a helicopter is considered in the article. A
microburst wind shear is considered as well as one of the most dangerous examples
of atmospheric turbulence. Algorithms for determining the conditions falling into
a downward microburst and a technique for getting out of a dangerous situation
using on-board facilities, including an on-board calculator and LCD indicator, are
proposed. Experimental results of fl ight evaluation of the proposed algorithms and
techniques, conducted on the fl ight simulator of the light aircraft «Sigma-Classic»
with take-off weight of 540 kg, are described.
