The capacitance of a thin conductor with a rectangular cross-section. |

The fundamental difference between the charge distribution within the volume of a conductor of an integrated circuit and the charge distribution within the volume of a detached plate of the same shape is shown, which is essential for computing capacitance. A technique for obtaining a bilateral estimate of capacitance for a conductor with an unknown symmetric or asymmetric charge distribution is proposed. Formulas for the computation of the capacitance of a rectangular conductor with an arbitrary length-to-width ratio and a rectangular cross-section are obtained with regard to charge distribution for free space and a layered medium. The formulas are intended to be employed in CAD systems. |
