INFORMATION AND POTENTIAL EFFICIENCY OF DIFFERENTIAL TELEVISION SYSTEMS

The article discusses the approach and issues related to the assessment of the information content and potential effi ciency of multi-spectral television (MSTV) systems that register radiant flux in different spectral regions (zones) of radiant flux registration, including the ultraviolet, visible and infrared regions of the spectrum. The informativeness of multi-spectral images (MSI) is understood as the total amount of distinctive information that a consumer can receive by spectral-energy, spatial and additional features of objects when they are observed in one or several MSI. Various situations of fi nding target and background objects in the field of view of MSTV systems are noted. Variants of distinguishing objects belonging to different classes are shown. It is noted that the spectral portrait of objects unambiguously reflects the individuality and distinguishability of objects of observation and the background in the selected spectral region. The general distinctive information contained in individual MSI on the number of distinguished objects is presented in the form of a sequence of numbers of the variation series. In this case, one zone of registration of the radiant flux is allocated, in which it is possible to obtain the maximum possible amount of discriminatory information about objects and, accordingly, a larger number of distinguishable objects in comparison with other zones. The ratio of the number of distinguishable objects at the output of the system to the total initial number of objects in the observed space is taken as the value of the potential efficiency of MSTV systems. With an increase in the number of zones of registration of the radiant (light) flux and the number of initial objects of observation, the increase in the possible potential efficiency of the MSTV systems will monotonically decrease. An excessive increase in the number of zones for registration of a radiant flux, when m> 4, can lead to only a slight increase in the potential effi ciency of MSTV systems. In the general case, the achievement of a given potential efficiency of the RSTV systems is associated with a further increase in the information content and discriminatory information contained in each MSI. This ultimately provides for the selection of the optimal number of zones for recording the radiant flux, the use of matrix photodetectors with a higher resolution, and the use of adaptive signal processing methods depending on the content of the observed MSI.
