PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF LOSSLESS REMOTE SENSING DATA COMPRESSION USING THE HDF5 LIBRARY |

The study is devoted to the problem of lossless compression of Earth remote sensing data. Compression should be performed directly on board for fast data transfer via communication channels and at ground stations for compact storage of large amounts of information. The performed analysis shows that active research is under way in this application area and the problem continues to be relevant. An experimental study was performed and comparative results of HDF5 library lossless data compression algorithms testing are presented. A parallel data compression module based on the PPMd library was developed and tested using the multithreaded environment. A brief overview of the work on the subject of the study is given. It is shown that the results obtained by different algorithms remain generally on the same qualitative level. The choice of a specific algorithm can be determined by the features of the hardware, time constraints and preferences of developers.
