THE INFLUENCE OF BACKSCATTERING OF LASER RADIATIONIN LIDAR FLYING COMPLEXES OF EARTH REMOTE SENSING |
V.I. Grigorevskiy, V.P. Sadovnikov, Ya.A. Tezadov, A.V. Elbakidze
The paper presents the results of a theoretical and experimental study of the backscattering
of light when testing a cosmic lidar in terrestrial conditions, operating
in a continuous or quasi-continuous mode, when it is impossible to perform gating
and to eliminate the effect of backscattering of light in the atmosphere on the signal
received by the lidar. The theoretical calculations give the backscattering on different
paths at a level of ~ 10–11 W at a wavelength of 1650 nm with a transmitter
power of 2 W and a separation of the receiver and transmitter from each other by a
distance of 5 cm. When the lidar is located on a low-orbit satellite, the backscattering
from the whole the thickness of the atmosphere will be ~ 10–12 W at a transmitter
power of 30 W and a receiving lens diameter of 1 m. The experiment carried out
confi rmed the correctness of the theoretical backscatter estimation. A slight discrepancy
between the theoretical and experimental data is due to cloudy weather
and the presence of moisture in the atmosphere. Separation of the receiver and the
transmitter by 25 cm from each other allowed to reduce the backscatter to the value
of the noise of the photodetector.
