PROVIDING OF PRECISION FOR THREE-COMPONENT MAGNETOMETERS BY CALIBRATION IN THE EARTH’S MAGNETIC FIELD
G.I. Soborov

Search of new means for increasing of precision and check of characteristics of three-component magnetometers (TCM) with reduction of cost and with providing off-the-shelf availability of calibration instruments for their serial production and built-in test means for an expanding circle of users is a vital task. Known calibra-tion means based on use of screened gages of magnetic induction and Helmholtz rings are hard to be implemented and cost a lot. Known practices and methods of precision increasing which are oriented on use of magnetic gages also complicate the calibration process. A method and mathematical description of algorithms for providing of TCM precision based on vector conversions carried out by methods focused on rotation of geometric axes of own orthogonal TCM basis in the Earth’s magnetic field (EMF) with known parameters. Technical implementation of the method provides use of simplified calibration means which expand the capability of reference gage (signal) method. Identification of all measured and correctable er-rors of TCM is carried out by determination of parameters of 3D conversion char-acteristic by solving sets of linear scalar-matrix equations which are formed in the process of vector conversions. Variants of formation of equation sets determined by various position of the reference orthogonal coordinate system relative to the EMP induction vector are considered. One of the important criteria of selecting its posi-tion is the capability of selection and use of measurement instruments and orienta-tion means. The proposed method of vector conversions provides minimizing of quantity of required procedures for TCM input action formation, thus providing a synthesis of calibration programmes with minimum redundancy.
Key words: calibration, three-component magnetometer, parameters of conversion characteristic, gage of magnetic induction, matrix equations, vector of magnetic induction, vector conversions.
