Measurement parameters
and calibration of MEMS IMU

In recent years, micromechanical inertial sensors such as gyroscopes and accel-erometers are becoming widespread, as well as various gyroscopic systems based on those. Unfortunately, manufacturers of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) often skip in their technical documentation such important characteristics of their products as constant startup error, run-to-run error, random error and warm-up time. In this paper, the error model for the MEMS Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) is proposed using simple and effective methods of measuring parameters and calibrating IMU with a minimum of control and testing equipment: a tilt stand with vertical spinning axis, аn orthogonal-sided cube, a computer, a liquid level, and a stop watch. The description and testing results for a real IMU are also provided.
