The Use of Bidirectional Image Scaling Based
on Wavelet Transforms to Increase Video
Compression of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles |

The method for increasing the effi ciency of video compression in applied television systems and UAVs is
discussing in the article. It is based on the preliminary reduction of the original image sizes by twofold, both
horizontally and vertically, and the restoration of their size subsequent to decoding. A bidirectional image
scaler software was created to accomplish this objective. It uses a lifting mechanism of wavelet transforms
based on the LeGall (5.3), Deslauriers-Debuc (9.7), and Deslauriers-Debuc (13.7) wavelet fi lters realized in
the Dirac video codec. There are results of experimental studies of the joint operation of the developed scaler
and Dirac video codec at the article.
