Selective Mechanism for Solving the Orientation
Problem With Implementation on Raspberry Pi

The paper considers a selective approach to compute orientation parameters of a micromechanical inertial
measurement unit (IMU). Three algorithms are of interest are considered: the classical navigation algorithm,
as well as the Mahony and Madgwick fi lters. Criteria for selective choose the most reliable algorithmic
solution to the orientation problem are given, considering the pre-formed priorities. To verify proposed in
paper theoretical approach an experiment was carried out. In the experiment a comparison of obtained
data from two IMUs: Analog Device ADIS16488 and WaveShare Sense Hat (c) belonging to different
accuracy classes was made. A Raspberry Pi on-board computer is used for data processing. The results
of the experiment showed the applicability of the proposed approach with the proposed criteria, as well
as that for sensors with smaller instrumental errors, such as ADIS16488, the three considered algorithms
are applicable, and for less accurate ones, such as WaveShare Sense Hat (c), it is more reliable to use the
Madgwick and Mahony filters.
