EVALUATION OF INFORMATION MULTI-SPECTRAL IMAGES |
T.Yu. Sagdullaev, Yu.S. Sagdullaev
This article discusses issues related to the assessment of the informativeness of multispectral images. The information properties of multi-spectral television (TV) and thermal imaging (TPR) images are primarily determined by the selected spectral sections and the number of registration areas of the radiant flux and their location in the visible and infrared spectral regions. The total amount of information in the spectral images for individual spectral sections (zones) of the optical spectrum Δλi, which can be obtained by recording and converting the radiant (light) flux in areas (zones), including the visible, near, middle or far infrared spectral region is shown. The concept of distinctive information about objects in multi-spectral TV and TPR images by spectral-energy, spatial and additional features is a universal criterion for assessing the informativeness of images. Variants of the generated and displayed multi-spectral TV and TPR images obtained by recording the reflected or radiated radiant (light) flux in different spectral regions are given. The possible amount of information in multi-spectral TV images is presented in relation to black-and-white TV images obtained by recording and converting the radiant flux in the visible spectrum and near infrared, as well as the radiated radiant flux in the far infrared region of the spectrum. To solve the problems of visual analysis of objects of the observed space, based on the possible amount of information contained in black and white, color and spectrozonal TV and TPR images, expressions were obtained for a quantitative assessment of their informativeness. Taking into account the possible amount of information arriving on one symbol of brightness and color, as well as spatial and additional features of objects, where a certain amount of binary information units can be assigned to each individual image parameter, an example is shown, evaluating the information content of a color image compared to an identical black-and-white image, which is equal to the size of 1.8…2.4 times. The technique has been developed and the informativeness of images of television and thermal imaging systems recording the radiant (light) flux in different spectral regions with different transparency of the distance medium has been evaluated. A graph showing the decrease in the information content of black-and-white and color (multi-spectral) television systems and the images they form compared with thermal imaging systems when the reflectivity of objects changes due to different daily variations and observation conditions is shown.
Key words: discriminative information, information content of multi-spectral images, television and thermal imaging systems, evaluation of information content.
