INFORMATION PROPERTIES AND FEATURES OF PERCEPTION OF MULTI-SPECTRAL IMAGES

This article discusses issues related to the characteristics of information properties, the levels of object recognition, the quality and efficiency of using methods for the formation of multi-spectral images. Informational properties of multi-spectral optical images, first of all, are determined by the selected number of registration areas of the radiant flux and their location in a given spectral region of the ultraviolet (UV), visible (VI) and infrared (IR) spectral regions. Moreover, there is always a certain number of registration zones m from {M} for the spectral selection of all combinations of objects in the set {N}. The levels of recognition of optical images include six levels: from the initial –detection of objects to their final level – recognition. Automatic image analysis (without human intervention) may contain the same recognition levels as in the visual analysis of video information. The process of recognizing objects may involve solving one problem, for example, only detecting objects, in the other case it may be the task of measuring the parameters of objects, etc. It is shown that the reliability of the tasks to be solved, for example, by the recognition levels – detection, discrimination or classification of objects depends on the quality of the generated television (TV) and thermal imaging (TPR) images for each spectral portion (zone) of the registration of the radiant flux. In the wavelength range of 1.4…1.7 μm, the transparency of the atmosphere significantly increases and, by more than an order of magnitude (compared to the VI spectral region), the brightness of the atmospheric haze decreases. Along with the transparency of the remote environment, other factors affecting the quality of different-spectral TV images in the VI spectral region are also shown and ways of their possible overcoming are determined. The given estimate of the efficiency of the formation of multi-spectral images, which basically uses two methods for registering the radiant (light) flux: differential and integral-differential methods, shows that the number of generated signals in the three-zone recording for the integral-differential method increases by 2,33 times, and the probability of detecting objects 1,2 times. The preferred use of the considered methods of registration of the radiant (light) flux, when a priori known or have only general information about the spectral characteristics of objects, is indicated.
