METHODS FOR TESTS OF CASINGS СONTAINMENT WITH MODELING
OF BLADES RELEASING |

The normative technical documents contain the requirement of mandatory localization
in the aircraft gas turbine engine (GTE) casings of fragments arising from
the destruction of GTE blades. However, the normative technical documents do
not contain recommendations on the technology of blade releasing, which ensures
that these requirements are met and the blade releasing methods have some
disadvantages. One of the methods used to blade releasing is the method of the blade
releasing with an explosion. This method of the blade releasing is very complicated
and has a number of serious drawbacks: an additional force from the explosion is
applied to the blade, and as a result the fl ight path of the blade changes. An original
and effective method of additional loading of blade section is proposed in which
the blade of the GTE fan blade is releasing. The blade releasing method consists
in the redistribution of stresses in a given section of the blade under additional
thermal loading and in providing a quasi-brittle failure of the blade at the specifi ed
cross section at a given rotor speed. The calculated simulation of the controlled
releasing of the blade is carried out. When using the developed method the blade
is reliably releasing in the required cross-section at a specifi ed speed without using
an explosion. The results of successfully carried out tests of fan casing сontainment
of the aircraft engine on the spin rig are obtained, which showed the effectiveness
of the developed method of thermally controlled blade releasing.
