This article presents a simulation model of an aircraft starter-generator (SG), allowing investigation of modes of operation of SG coupled with static power converter, as well as SG starter to generator mode transition and optimal parameters selection in a wide range of SG operating conditions at the design stage of research. A simulation model developed using Matlab Simulink is based on the mathematical model of synchronous electromechanical energy converter in dq reference frame. On the basis of research of developed simulation model, it was found that the ability to run a gas turbine engine using magneto starter-generator is provided not only by the characteristics of the machine, but also by the design and characteristics of the frequency converter, which works in conjunction with the SG.
