On the problem of weight and dimensions reduction
of flight & navigation systems for light helicopters

The paper demonstrates the possibility of weight and dimensional characteristics reduc-tion of flight & navigation systems for light helicopters through designing of integrated computation systems. Application of the described principle in the course of light civil helicopters designing at KAMOV Joint Stock Company made it possible to ensure high reliability of solving navigational tasks when helicopters feature high functionality. The authors have formulated the tasks of functions distribution between the flight and navi-gation computers of KAMOV JSC’s light helicopters. It is shown that the main task of the navigation computer is generation of the flight path relative to the ground surface, while the main task of the flight computer is stabilization of helicopter movements with respect to its center of mass. Principles of helicopter’s radio aids control with the help of the navigation computer and of the weather radar control with the help of the electronic data display system have been studied. The paper describes modes of the helicopter en-route flight control by the signals from the flight computer including flying along the desired track, along the desired heading and along the desired track angle.
